Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese word representing Universal vital energy the energy which is all around us and within us. Reiki is derived from two words: Rei, which refers to the ‘Universal Spirit’ and Ki, which means ‘life force’ or ‘vital energy’. When you have a high Ki or in Chinese Chi, your body is playing its symphony perfectly in tune and it is healthy. On the other hand, if your Ki is disrupted by stress, anxiety, or negative feelings, your body responds with notes that are discordant or out of tune, and dis-ease ensues. The Reiki healing system was brought to the United States in 1938 by Mrs.Takata who lived in Hawaii. She was trained in Japan by Dr. Chujiro Hayashi who was directly taught by Dr. Mikao Usui. Dr Usui had rediscovered the system of Reiki healing which was revealed to him by Buddhist Sutras or aphorisms.

Reiki is an ancient form of healing brought to the United States from Japan. Literally speaking, Rei means Universe and Ki is the signature frequency that all living things possess. Ki is like the symphony of your body.

Those who know Reiki help others to regain or maintain their signature frequency and therefore their health.

Reiki practitioners are not only specially educated, but also attuned. The process of attunement, administered by a Reiki Master, enables the Reiki practitioner to administer Reiki to others.

The Reiki Principles:

Just for today, do not worry.
Just for today, do not anger.
Honor your parents, teachers, and elders.
Earn your living honestly.
Show gratitude to everything.

What happens in a Reiki Session?

The person lies on a massage table, bed or can even be sitting in a chair. They are fully clothed.
Although there are a few positions in which the practitioner is in contact with the patient (such as cradling the head), most Reiki treatments do not involve actual touching. The practitioner holds his or her hands a few inches or farther away from the patient's body and manipulates the energy field from there.

What does a Reiki treatment feel like?

What one experiences during a Reiki treatment varies somewhat from person to person. A deep relaxation is usually felt by all. In addition, you may feel a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and surrounds you. As the Reiki energy encourages one to let go of all tension, anxiety, fear or other negative feelings, a state of peace and well-being is experienced. Some drift off to sleep or report floating outside their bodies or have visions and other mystical experiences. At the end of the treatment, one feels refreshed with a more positive and balanced outlook

Who can learn Reiki?

Everyone.
Reiki is an amazingly simple technique to learn.
The ability to use Reiki is not ‘taught’ in the usual sense, but is transferred to the student during a Reiki workshop. This transference is called an attunement given by a Reiki Master and allows the student to channel this ‘life force’ to improve one’s health and enhance the quality of life.
It is a great addition to a Hatha Yoga and meditation/concentration practice and is not dependent on one's intellectual capacity or spiritual development. It has been successfully taught to thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds.
