Yin Yoga is a beautiful complement to any exercise, including the simple daily art of living and being in itself. This gentle style of movement bypasses the superficial (muscular) areas of the body by working deeper into the fascia (connective tissue between muscles and bones) and instilling senses of harmony, balance, and increased flexibility mentally and physically to the whole body. Targeted are the hips, shoulders, lower back, and other areas in which we tend to store the majority of our tension. Your guide will explain how the energetic body connects with the physical body, as the practice includes meditation, concentration, and enhanced awareness. In the practice of yin, all postures are conducted on the floor, and you will be asked to: 1. assume a posture to the best of your ability; 2. hold this posture in stillness for 3-5 minutes; and 3. refrain from comparing yourself with others in the room as you honor the individuality of your body.
In this workshop, Kiki Attonito, Registered Yoga Instructor, Yin Yoga Specialist, and Master's level psychological clinician, will makes this style of yoga accessible to everyone. You will learn all of the specific postures designed to open the body, mind, and spirit, have the opportunity to practice many of these postures, and experience wisdom of somatic experience as you are guided through ways in which to link your thoughts and actions with the sensations of your body.
